I have two dogs named Bilbo and Frodo and they were adopted from the Humane Society as puppies. They are both loving companions and extremely loyal when put to the test. They always like to be around me and even as I write this I have both lying at my feet - one on my left and one on my right. The best part of coming home after work is to see them both greet me and my car with happy wagging tails and they normally run circles around my car till I park it in the garage.
On Wednesday when I came home only one came to greet me and it was Bilbo. Looking around the garage I found evidence that one of them had been sick. I assumed it was Frodo since he hadn't come out to greet me and was sleeping inside the house. I felt sorry for poor Frodo and sat by him and petted him and gave him as much love as I could and pretty much ignored Bilbo.
On Thursday it was the same when I came home, Bilbo came out happily wagging his tail and was showing all his love, again Frodo didn't come outside and there was evidence of a dog being sick in the garage again. So I did the same thing I did before, spent a lot of time pampering Frodo.
On Friday too, it was the same Bilbo was running around me in circles when I came home and Frodo was fast asleep inside and I felt sorry for the poor sick dog. On Friday night I was woken up at 2:00 am by Bilbo and he wanted to be let out side, he was sick, he was the one who had been sick all along and I ignored him and thought it was lazy Frodo that had been sick since he never came out with his brother as he usually did. Poor Bilbo was sick all night, I had to put him and Frodo on a plain rice diet and they're both back to normal.
But the important lesson that I learnt this day from my dogs is that things are not always as they seem, we can misread signs and sometimes miss the joy and love around us,
an animal that loves you will do so in spite of being sick and that Frodo is one lazy bum!!
